Physical Design - Engineering Manager
Purpose of role
The Engineering Manager is responsible for directly managing, supporting, and providing direction and motivational leadership to their team, to achieve project deliverables to a high standard. Engineering Managers must lead by example by implementing the Sondrel culture to create a high performing team and to deliver on commitments.
What you will be doing
- Contribute to projects in the role of a physical design lead and ensure that the engineers assigned to the project are oriented towards achieving timely and top-notch quality milestones.
- Assume a hands-on approach by working on physical design and closure of subsystems or full-chip and lead by example.
- Display customer intimacy by demonstrating clear and customer focused communication, issue resolution & delivery to beyond expectation and developing this approach with the team.
- Working with broader engineering teams and engineering management to constantly improve methodologies and adopt best industry working practices.
- Provide expert advice and debugging capabilities to critical issues across multiple projects.
- Taking ownership and responsibility by motivating direct reports to manage their time and deliver on day-to-day tasks.
- Plan the physical design activities from the beginning of the project all the way to tapeout.
- Provide inputs and feedback on engineering effort estimations for new projects throughout the bidding stage and liaise with potential customers if needed.
- Actively participate in social engagements and create a culture of recognition to reward success and enhance collaboration.
- Liaise with the EDA tool vendors to ensure that the critical tool issues are followed-up and necessary support is provided.
- Working with the Senior Engineering Manager to create a high-performing team by:
- Taking the lead to continuously improve the team performance by understanding Sondrels behaviours, managing employee related issues and setting SMART objectives in line with project deliverables.
- Taking ownership of developing direct reports in their career progression by identifying on the job experience, training and development needs. Encouraging a culture of appropriate delegating and knowledge sharing.
- Liaising with the Senior Engineering Manager to hire to headcount to address the current and future skills gaps and capability within the team.
- Communicating, following and ensuring your team understands and adheres to company policies, procedures and processes.
- Managing the employee lifecycle within your team, including but not restricted to onboarding/offboarding, absence/holiday management and monitoring departmental employee turnover and improving retention.
- Ensuring company messages are communicated and understood by the team and appropriate feedback is given to management by holding regular team meetings, 1:1’s, objective reviews and annual appraisals.
- Working with the Senior Engineering Manager by coordinating representation of Sondrel at universities, conferences and trade shows, and presenting technical papers.

- A Bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering or a relevant subject.

Technical Skills
- Experience and understanding of Concepts in FullChip implementation like Synthesis, Flooplanning, Placement, CTS, Routing, STA, sign-off and tapeout checks.
- Expertise in debugging issues and providing out-of-the-box solutions.
- Good understanding of low power implementation techniques.
- Good understanding and implementation of complete physical design flow in advanced process nodes and hands on experience in timing report analysis, EDA tool knowledge essential with either Synopsys or Cadence.
- Experience in developing and presenting “technical white papers"
- Contributes to the development of technical sales documents such as a Statement of Work.
- Experience of engaging with customers during the business development cycle.
Desirable

- Experience in working with Microsoft Project for project planning and risk analysis.
- Experience in customer management.
- Experience in crisis management.
Technical skills
- Possesses a broad cross disciplinary knowledge but with the ability to apply advanced knowledge of a single sub-function OR knowledge of multiple sub-functions.
- Understanding DFT concepts and timing constraint development.
- Expertise in Synopsys toolset.
