Principal Physical Design Engineer (Low Power PD Expert)
Purpose of role
The Principal Physical Design Engineer is expected to take the lead as part of a Physical Design team with expertise in Low Power Design. This may take the form of being an outstanding expert in an aspect of the low power physical design skill set . Within the team the designer will have significant responsibility for the delivery of a skilled task and/or the full chip from RTL to GDS. As the team lead the designer will also fulfill the role of customer interface, reporting all aspects of the project and ensure all the tools and resources are adequately and properly allocated to meet the commitments of the company.
What you will be doing
- The person will perform comprehensive power analysis at various design stages from RTL to GDS.
- The person will contribute to develop, improve and automate various power analysis flows.
- The person will investigate power inefficiencies and provide feedback to RTL design.
- Developing recipe for Power optimization ( RTL to GDS).
- The person will lead low power aspects of the physical design projects as an expert and/or demonstrate industry leading expertise in low power physical design. Examples of which are: low power Synthesis, PnR, Formal verification.
- Should be a team leader to lead a team to work on customer/internal large/complex projects .
- Should be mentor and develop team members, gathering creative and talented technical staff and form a team for achievement of targets
- Should be able to take multi-assignments from different customers/Teams
- Coordinate and communicate with cross functional teams to define and create specifications for overall project requirements. ·
- Coordinates with and manages external vendor deliverable
- Keep up to date with all the advances in the field and ensure the company is well at the forefront of the state-of-the-art technology, methodologies and processes used in the industry
- Should be able to contributes to technical white papers and present at internal and external conferences and will contribute to sales support as part of a team
- Will be engaged in maintaining the high quality of the teamwork produced
- International travel based on project requirements.
- Adhering to company policies and ensure team to follow the same.
Qualifications
Essential
- A bachelor's degree/masters or PhD in either a relevant subject
Desirable
- Masters or PhD in a related subject but with 10+ years practicable experience. Project management qualification.

- Typically, 10+ years' experience
- RTL2GDSII design flow usage and development in advanced technology nodes ( 7nm and below).
- Experience in power analysis and reduction using PrimeTime PX/PrimePower.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such TCL, Python is required.
- Working knowledge of RTL design.
- Experience with rtl power optimization using tools such as Power-Artist.
- Low-power architecture
- Switchable power domain
- DVFS
- Memory sleep/LP modes & control thereof
- Other power-vs-performance techniques (eg. Active body biasing)
- Low-power design
- UPF development (including power-state table design)
- Integration of power control

- Isolation/Retention implementation
- IR-Drop analysis
- Timing constraint adjustment for voltage/frequency scaling
- Serves as an independent individual contributor to technical project or as part of a team
- Be capable of solving problems of significant complexity
- Defines and leads large projects of a highly technical nature
- Strong Project Management capability
- Good communication skill and customer development capability
- Experience in physical design on nodes at 7nm and under is preferred.
- Synthesis, placement (and optimisation), CTS and routing using FusionCompiler and/or Genus.
- Good knowledge of automating process using Make systems and proficiency in Tcl.
- Static Timing Analysis using Primetime including generation and application of timing ECOs
Desirable
- Applies advanced knowledge of a single sub-function OR thorough knowledge of multiple sub-functions
- Tcl, Perl and or Python
- Knowledge of point tools such as Mentor Calibre or Apache Redhawk is beneficial
- Insertion of DFT structures using Tessent (alternatively Tetramax)
- Logical Equivalence checking (Formality preferred, alternatively Conformal)
- DRC/LVS signoff using ICValidator
- IR-drop analysis using Redhawk/Seascape
